Teacher and Author group visit

I was invited to visit a Parent and Toddler Group in East Grinstead.

Every Friday morning during term time the group invite a speaker to come along and give a short talk (five to ten minutes) to the parents. They have had a variety of speakers: firefighter, town councillor, Fairtrade, WI, Bluebell Railway, veterinary nurse, artists, amateur astronomer and many more.

I was asked if I might be able to give a short talk about my Jay-Jay stories, the Bewbush Playbus and my life as a supply teacher.

What a lot of hats to wear and for me the tricky part would be keeping to the ten minutes.

I was able to set up a small display table with copies of my books, and information.

The parents and children gathered in a circle at 10.30 for a snack and story time. At which time it was handed over to me for my talk. There would then be an opportunity for parents to chat with me and ask questions.

Despite a problem with the microphone, the feedback comment was: "Your talk was perfectly pitched and just the right length. It was great to see that so many parents and grandparents chatted to you afterwards and took a look at your colourful display table."

It was indeed good to be able to share my writing journey.

The group reminded me of the 'Playbus' many years ago and how much fun it offered.

"The bus would drive to them wherever they were, he would light up their lives with colour and happiness"

The cozy quiet haven inside the bus offered a chance for children and parents alike to come along and meet and chat with others.

The next stop will be the book launch. 8th July 2017, at East Grinstead Book Shop.
