Learning through David's Bathtime Play

Water Play

It’s always good to hear your book being read by someone other than you, and to know they enjoyed it too.

Recently I was asked by an online tutor if I might allow her permission to use a few of my books to read for her lessons.

The tutor, Katie, read ‘David’s Bathtime Adventure’ and also suggested a few ideas to use with the book.

Here are a few ideas to support or to use with the book.

Text: David’s Bathtime Adventure

As with any picture book it is good to look at the cover and blurb and to discuss what they can see and what they imagine the story might be about.

The children could list the toys they might enjoy in their own bathtime.

What do you enjoy playing with in the bath?

Story Time (David’s Bathtime Adventure)

Think about how the bathtime inspires David in his play.

What did David use in his bath?

Did he need all of the things he added to the bath?

boatsDoes this sound like your bathtime?

What was the best bit of the story? Why?

What did you think about David and his antics?

Watery Role Play Adventure

Act out the story and create thought and speach bubbles for the characters in the story.

What was mummy thinking? What did mummy say?

What was David thinking? What did David say?

Create a Water Adventure

Who else can you think of that could have adventures?

Get the children to list who they could be.

An underwater explorer? A pirate? A fireman with a hose?

Slippery Soap

Make soap.or bath-bombs

You can add a small toy inside the bath bombs and soap.

Add them to the water and watch them dissolve.

(a good gift for someone maybe)
