Summer Holiday

Most people when you mention Playbus recall the 1963 British musical feature film ‘Summer Holiday’ which starred Sir Cliff Richard.

The converted AEC Regent ‘RT’ double decker bus is driven across Europe, intending to get to the South of France. However, their eventual destination was Athens.Summer Holiday

There were a few Playbus’s which headed off to Europe to visit other continental projects and to share ideas and network.

Bus Rally GermanyItaly and Germany had single decker projects, something to do with low bridges, and many were involved in ‘Circus’ skills and entertainment.

I always wondered how our bus would be received as I often visited Spain to an area of Moraira, Teulada. But my dream never did come to fruition as it would have been too costly.

Jay-Jay’s island Adventure is based on a real Scottish book bus which travelled to the Shetland Islands on a small ferry.Book bus to the Shetland Isles

The front cover of the Island Adventure has Jay-Jay heading to an island and anyone who knows the area of Moraira, Teulada Spain might recognise ‘Cap D’or.

Reading a bookThis September the story will be read to children in the librarary of both Moraira and Teulada.

Jay-Jay might not actually have got to Spain but in my mind, it did and now the fictional tale will be in their libraries too!
