Who was Bulgy the double-decker bus?

Thomas the Tank Engine had many friends as well as stories to share, one story was about Bulgy the Double-Decker Bus.

Who was Bulgy?

Bulgy was a bad tempered and miserable double decker bus who was out to close down the rails and "Free the Roads". He had no scruples and had been known to tell lies when he's in a tight jam.

He went to work on the Island of Sodor during the busy season. He thought he was better than all the engines, so he tried to take their passengers away. Because of his lies, Bulgy was taken out of service and used as a hen house where he could not cause trouble.

(Sound’s a bit like 'Chicken -Shed' my little green bus!?)

He still told these "whoppers" as a hen house; however, they no longer did any harm because the hens never listen to them anyway!

Bulgy despised railways and believed that they would eventually be completely replaced by roads. He even carried a poster on his side telling people to "JOIN THE ANTI-RAIL LEAGUE." His slogan was "free the roads!"

Bulgy had once attempted to steal passengers by pretending to be a railway bus. He got stuck under a bridge after trying to take a short cut.

(Hmm! This sounds a bit like the story part written for Hackney Playbus, ‘Bugsy and the Bridge!?)

He was turned into a henhouse and placed near the bridge, which was nicknamed ‘Bulgy’s Bridge’ and this was where he was found by Brigit and Stephen.

Bulgy, much as my buses in my stories, is based on a real bus in this case an AEC Bridgemaster double-decker bus.

Bulgy's Livery

Bulgy is painted scarlet and cream. He has a sign on his left side reading "RAILWAY BUS" and another sign on his right-side reading "JOIN THE ANTI-RAIL LEAGUE". He also has signs on his front and back, reading "FREE THE ROADS".

Well seeing this bus reminded me of my stories part-written and so now perhaps it is time to look at them again.
