Keep Cool and Carry On!

Keeping Cool

At the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown it was my intention to publish a few resources and ideas online to help with homeschooling. But it seemed everyone was doing the same.

Joe Wicks had P.E. covered and schools were sorting out online lessons.

I recorded a couple of YouTube book readings; joined in with Indie Authors week; took part in an EYFS take over day and made a few Lego Buses to go with me to events when we can do them again.

Blue FanToday, as the temperature soars once more into the 30’s, I thought I would add a task to maybe keep you busy and also cool.

I love my Spanish fans even if this year I can’t travel to get a new one.

But it reminded me of a school task for our Victorians topic.

We would start with getting the children to make a Victorian fan.

7 piecesCut out 7 pieces using the template. (Card is good).

Decorate them all the same.   Decorated fan pieces

Join the together with a split pin at the bottom of the pieces.

Sew a thread from each top right corner and secure with tape.Attach split pin

Open the fan.

Okay you can make a concertina folded paper fan, use a piece of card or paper to waft the breeze or use a book but this is more fun!

It really is a good way to keep cool!

My intention was to also try and produce an activity book as well as an information book to go with the bus stories. This plan is still on the cards as is the ‘Weather witch’ story.

Over the lockdown I also decided to offer my books as raffle, to date six of my nine books have been off in some way. The newest book, which came out in lockdown, ‘Gloria the Summer Fun Bus’, joined in with a blog tour.

It at least kept me busy while furloughed from teaching.

Where to get my books
