Free Books for Schools

I always leave a free book in every school I visit as a Supply Teacher.

As a cover teacher I am often asked to teach a wide range of classes from Reception to Year 6.

I never know the subject or topic in advance so have to think of ways to engage with the children. If time I have been able to tell them about my story writing.

Queen's Silver Jubille PlaqueI can usually show the children my 'Bewbush Playbus' book and the photographs of the original bus which I then compare with bus on the cover of 'Jay-Jay the Supersonic bus' book. The children are facinated in the concept of a 'Playbus' and are interested that the story is based on a real bus.

Sometimes I have the time to read the story and it is nice to know that they can at least see the book in their school, somewhere.

As a Supply Teacher I have to make sure the work set is undertaken but have on occasion been asked to do an impromtu 'author' chat or fit the book into the set planning. Questions; book reviews; fact/fiction; illustrated drawings; story telling.

Even if I do not get time to read the story I make sure the book is left in each school as I depart.Supersonic Banner

Author Visits

I am able to offer author visits to schools and suggest if interested the school can either contact me direct or via the teaching agency I work for.

On request an author visit fee will give the school not only 6 free books but also a free teaching resource pack which can be used to support the visit.
