Would you like to join us for Buses Day? - EYFSHome

Beep beep

Daisy was off on her journey.

Her story was to be featured on an Early Years online learning day.

This was the bus I painted and will be one of the buses to be featured in the new ‘Double-Decker Playbus colouring book’, which will be arriving soon.

My books are story books for ages 4 – 8 and the day included a few activities to support the stories.

After an introduction to my books, it was time to tell Daisy’s story.

  1. Story Time (Daisy Daydream the Nursery Rhyme Bus)

This day would be all about Daisy Daydream with maps and journeys to think about. It began with her story.

The children would be encouraged to think about the story, what was their favourite part and why?

They could follow it up by drawing and designing a bright colourful Playbus of their own

What would they call their bus?

Where would it take them?

  1. Make a bus

There are lots of different ways to make a bus, using construction toys or scrap materials how would you build it. Lego Bus

Of course, as I’m the ‘Lego Lady’, I made a few Lego Playbus models of my own. I wrote a blog about it check it out here.

Give it a name, maybe take it for a drive wherever you live or visit.

A Spanish bus rideI took my red bus on holiday to Spain. A different view of a familiar place. Lego Bus journey to Spain

The views on the Spanish bus ride were used on Jay-Jay's Island Adventure cover.

  1. Bus Rhymes and Jokes

Daisy has a book full of bus rhymes and jokes

The rhymes might sound familiar but in Daisy’s book they all have a different twist.

‘The Wheels on the bus’, is also a familiar song but how many verses can you think of and act out.

I recently watched a whole series of rhymes with my one-year-old grandson. There were so many variations.

In fact, I got bored before my grandson did.

  1. Journey Map

Having made a bus model perhaps the children could take it for a drive and create a journey map?

Where would it go?

What would it pass along the way?

Who might hop on board?

I wonder what story this might help to create?

  1. A Spooky Tale.

The day ended with another story, this time it was ‘A Spooky Tale’, this was a story written with my class at school and it began with a story map.

A Spooky Map

We had been on a school trip, which was a walk around our neighbourhood, we had drawn a map and had imagined lots of thing that could have happened.

In the story the teacher went home ill, but why?

(I did – but was any of it true?)
