Books and Badges

The children always loved being able to make their own badges.

Badges, badges and more badges! We would make badges to suit any occasion as well as make badges for charity fund-raising including 'Comic Relief'.

Over the summer I had offered to take the badge-machine into a local garden center as part of their summer fun for children.

I took my book to sign and my badge-machine with ideas to colour as well as blanks to deisng their own.

As always the children loved the process of making the badge... no matter what age... adults too.

They would either colour a picture or draw their own design. Then under supervision they made ther paper picture into a wonderful badge to colour!

Bus badgesIt is always fun but it also gave me a chance to talk about the background to the bus and how it led to the story writing.

The children loved the badge-making and the adults were interested in the background and some sharted their own memories and stories.

A always it was great to be able to chat and talk about the bus. I even met some children from the schools I visited throughout the year.

Bus badgesI was pleased to see new and familair faces and then along came a cheery mum full of tales about her time on the Bewbush Playbus. What do you remember I asked her? "The friendship, and it was always full of laughter. It created happy memories" Her comment made me feel warn inside! That is what a 'Playbus does! It gets into your soul! While her children happily got on with the activites on offer she sat and coloured her own badge. Her childern all secretly coloured a badge for their mums birthday the following day! I hope, and am sure she loved them.

Signed books were on offer but the badges were always so popular and thanks to the garden center staff it was a friendly and happy summer of fun!

Maybe next time!?

Now the one story has grown into a fleet of books. Teacher tales and journeys.
