The Masked Teacher

Super Nanny

Alexander is off to school full time, but first there were two in-service training days to cover, so we would have a couple of days full of play.

Our car journey to Nanny’s house is always full of chatter, laughter, songs and observations.

Today Alexander was asking about my teaching and my classes.

“I don’t have one class any more I visit lots of classes in different school.”

“Why do you have lots of classes?” Alexander asked.

“Because I’m a supply teacher, I help out where I can.”

“What’s a supply teacher?”

“Well, if a teacher is ill, or needs to be somewhere else, I come along to help and I look after the class.”

“Like a Superhero.”

“Well yes, I’m a Super-teacher.”

“You should have a superhero costume.”

“Well, I do have a bus bag full of things I might need.”

“Oh”

“And I do always wear my special Lego ear-rings.”

Alexander thought: he does a lot of thinking.

“Maybe you should have a have a superhero cape and a superhero mask.”

“That would be a good idea. What sort of mask should I wear?”

Alexander thought some more.

“A mask to go over your eyes.”

“That’s a good idea. What colour should me mask be?”

“Blue! You like blue don’t you Nanny?”

“I sure do.” I agreed.

“What would your name be?” he asked.

“Super-Nanny?”

“Or Super-Nanny Teacher?”

“All teachers are super-teachers Alexander, because they work very hard.”

Alexander thought a little bit more.

“Maybe one day you might come to my school.”

“That would be nice, I could save the day?”

“Yes!”

“But I hope your school won’t really need me.”

My great nephew Ezra is also going to start school and he an his brother Orion already think I’m a Superhero, called Sue Potato!

After a bit of a tumble in the garden I remembered our conversation and decided I'd need to make a superhero Mask to hide my two black eyes. Well it worked and yes Alexander liked the mask.
