Nanny's Halloween Book Bag

The Book Bag
Nanny's Book Bag

I no longer have Alexander on a Thursday so we no longer had reading time.

Then Daddy said that Alexander wasn’t enjoying breakfast club at school so maybe on a Thursday, when I come to pick up Isabelle, we could have breakfast club with Nanny. Then Nanny and Isabelle could take him to school then Isabelle and I could then head off to Nanny’s house to play.

It did mean that I would need to set off super early to get there so we could have a bit of playtime and catch up before school.

I decided I’d bring along a bookbag each week to share with both Alexander and Isabelle. Some of the books in my bag are favourites we have read before and I made sure there would be a range of books to share.

Isabelle has a lot of her own board books with flaps that she likes Nanny to read. I noticed a lot of the flaps are missing. She loves Nanny’s book, ‘Spot’s Playbus’, especially the sound of the engine and the bell, ‘Ding, Ding’, but we are very careful with the flaps.

I decided I would bring a few books for Halloween/night-time themed.

Daddy’s favourite series was ‘Happy Families’ by Janet and Allen Ahlberg so I thought I would try one of these each week.

We read ‘Mr Creep the Crook’, Alexander looked closely at the character on the cover and then acted out the face of Mr Creep. He was very good.

Burglar Bill We also read ‘Burglar Bill’, Aunty Elly’s favourite book, and Mr Biff the Boxer. Alexander pointed out these were both characters mentioned in Mr Creep’s book.

We read Nanny’s book, A Spooky Tale and today he also enjoyed looking at the map.Spooky books

We read ‘Knock, Knock’, last year Alexander looked under the flaps, this year we read the knock, knock jokes, some of which he understood.

knock knock halloween‘The Frightful Ride of Michael McMichael’ was a bit of an odd story. Alexander liked the road map and Nanny liked the bus (of course!).

Isabelle liked the black cat in A Dark, Dark Tale.

We now have a selection of books to visit for Halloween, including Funny Bones (Aunty Elly’s favourites).

Isabelle’s favourite book at Nanny’s house was Aunty Elly’s book from the Rivers of London series, 'Winters Gifts' by Ben Aaronovitch, she picked up the book sat on her chair and pretended to read. The book was upside down and didn’t have pictures but she didn’t mind) Ben Aaronovitchs book

After half-term we will have a few different books in Nanny’s bag and maybe books for Christmas. Who knows?
