children drawn buses

I was recently booked for a day in a local school where I was asked to work with year 1 on their transport topic. The day was a mix of author booking as well as supply cover.

The day began by talking about the background for the real bus.

Later they heard the completed story, and could compare how the story related to the real bus. In the afternoon we looked at some of the real events as well as other buses decorated ready for play.

Throughout the day between talk sessions the children could complete various worksheets. I had provided a range of suggested worksheets that the teacher might like to use.

The teacher had chosen three of the worksheets which she felt suited Year 1.

The first was a journey maze. The children decided on a route to the toy shop and then were encouraged to talk about the route to their partner adding detail about what they saw or who could get on their bus.

The second worksheet was a circuit route and the children were encouraged to add their own ideas and write about their journey.

In the afternoon the children were given a sheet to draw and decorate their own Playbus.

In all cases the children were motivated and worked well and it was interesting to see how different their work was.

Well done Year 1!

  • fire bus A bright and colourful bus to come and explore!
  • A busy bus The wheels on the bus go round and round!
  • colourful bus Come along inside to explore!
  • A bus with a radar. What will he look like? what will he do?
  • Angel Bus The children were asked to make their own bus bright and colourful too.
